Emotions are volatile things. They affect us in ways that we can’t truly describe. All we know is that we can all experience them and sometimes they seem more harmful than helpful. When it comes to your professional life, these feelings can get in the way. It takes some skill and maturity of mind to channel it constructively.

Now that you found fuel to add to your fire, you should try to understand how to use it. To do that, you need to change your perspective on how you feel. Examine the causes. Frustration and anger are two things we are told not to feel. Even though they are normal, we often find ourselves bottling it up and hiding it. When you keep emotions like those unattended to, they eventually surface in disastrous ways.

When these emotions come as a result of something work-related, it can create an obstruction. Fortunately, these obstructions are temporary. They can be overcome with the right tools.

It’s actually not uncommon to have negative feelings drive your behavior. It can fuel destructive behavior quite easily. Suddenly the small things that irritate you become major inconveniences. Your attitude towards others can be intensified. Examining your state of mind will allow you to look at your source. You might be able to change your source, but you can shift your perspective of those feelings.

More often than not, you’ll find that you can channel this to your work. There’s no reason to direct energy into things that can’t be changed. No one can change the weather. Even when you predict bad weather, it can sometimes change at moment’s notice. All you can do is learn how to not get wet. Every nuisance and source of frustration is just a new challenge for you to overcome. Sounds exciting, right?

Adopting a ‘can-do’ attitude is not as easy as it sounds. It comes from a reliable system of venting. Reliable venting is a manner in which you can constructively apply your energies. The most obvious way is into fitness. But it doesn’t end there. You don’t always need to perform rigorous physical activity to blow off steam. ‘Workaholism’ is a broadly accepted form of venting. Unfortunately, it comes with risks.

In the same way you can hurt yourself by straining your body you can strain your mind with little to no rest. Channeling your negativity into something positive must come with a balance. For everyone, this balance is different. You’ll find that you are less reactive to the sources of negative emotions, but also more productive in your endeavors. It all starts with a shift in perspective; view everything as a challenge.
