Templates And Formulas
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a set template to achieve all of your goals? Looking for shortcuts and quick fixes is commonplace, but often not a good idea. In business, or in your career, your practice needs a stable foundation to ensure longevity. Without a formidable base, the integrity of your structure is compromised. Some might not look at this way. A shortcut or a template catalyses the process and gets results faster.
You can look at it from the point of view that shortcuts are cheating and are morally wrong, but to what extent?
Learning a skill the hard way allows you to be more fluent in that particular skill. Spending time and effort to learn an activity will make you better at it. Every expert starts as a beginner. Shortcuts undercut and undermine the fluency of that skill. If you want to be better in your field, you must be willing to put in the time and effort. Following a cheat sheet won’t yield desirable results.
There is also the question of what is a shortcut and how harmful are these proposed shortcuts. The first danger of cheat sheets or hacks are similar to get rich quick schemes. They promise a fast turnaround with amazing benefits, but those seeking solutions are likely to fall victim to fraudsters.
Also, these quick hacks delegitimizes the foundation you are building. A template or guide to creating a business plan is not a “cheat” or something to dismiss because it will help you do the work. But a true shortcut will give you something that you results with little to no effort on your part. This is where the waters become murky because there are tools that make work much easier for us all.
We need to become accustomed to the idea that there is no app or training program that can solve all of our problems for us, but rather aid us in completing tasks. Problems that we experience are all complex and while we can learn for other’s experiences, we can’t always expect to follow the same pattern and hope it will work perfectly for us.
A guide, template or formula should be like the alphabet. It’s the core of a language, the very way we communicate. No one questions their knowledge of the alphabet. We learnt it early in childhood thanks to a catchy melody. This simple tool was enough to construct the foundations for a language. This is what a resource should do. Be simple enough to be followed, encourage fluency, and be strong enough to use as a building block for other skills.
Instead of looking for shortcuts, resources like this should take center stage.

Technology has a terrifying grip on the way we communicate. With the endless buzzing of our phones, it seems as though scheduled notifications and automation are doing most of the work for us.
